Strategy Development

China Brand Development Project – in a collaborative effort with our strategic partner firm, tmg assisted in the development of training resources for a Chinese fuel/convenience retailer which has in excess of 10,000 retail sites.  The training resources included: 1) Network Planning Strategy Development; 2) Automatic Car Wash Operations and Strategy; 3) Automotive & Lube Center Operations and Strategy manuals.  tmg assisted in the Market Diagnostic visits in China that ultimately yielded a branding and c-store design strategy & implementation.

Latin American C-Store Refresh Project - led project team for a fuel/convenience retailer in LatAm whose assets were mature and in need of a refresh.  The new strategy included a new offer, layout and design closer to a quick serve restaurant than a c-store.  tmg assisted with all aspects of the refresh including:  new prepared foodservice offer; revised layout & equipment; new interior/exterior brand design; training; metrics; roll-out implementation; food safety and value engineering.

Fast Casual Restaurant Study Tour - coordinated a week-long, multi-city, Future of Convenience, hosted study tour in USA for an International retailer client.   Retailers visited were best in class Fast Casual restaurants.  We organized all logistics & store visits, including in-store meetings with FC owners/executives to gain invaluable insights into menu development, technology, equipment, operational standards, as well as Key Performance Financial Indicators.  This ‘learning and growth’ experience for our client’s executive led to not only inspiration, but also a modified strategy and new initiatives.

Global Truckstop Study Tour - we have coordinated multiple global Truckstop/Highway Site study tours around the world including USA, Europe, UK and LatAm.  Our retailer clients have found these study tours invaluable learning experiences which alter their long term strategies and short-term initiatives.  With our global connections, we have organized meeting with local retailers, trade associations and suppliers to assist our clients better understand both challenges and opportunities.

Electric & Hydrogen Vehicle Strategic Plan & Study Tour tmg led a multi-country study tour and research project for an International retailer client who was seeking knowledge, understanding and perspective regarding when and how drastically Electric Vehicles and Hydrogen Vehicles will ‘disrupt’ the liquid fuel transport model. We provided best-in-class current/future projections of EVs from globally renowned authorities; organized multi-country visits in Europe to see first-hand the impact EVs have/will have; and met with global/regional fuel retailers to learn their plans/strategies to address this looming disruption/opportunity. tmg ultimately developed a strategic roadmap for this client who is much better positioned to take the medium-term steps to prepare for this phenomenon.

Retail Assessment – conducted a multi-faceted, retail site assessment process for all new franchise dealers for a multi-national fuel/convenience retailer.  Our USA-based, global retailer client gained invaluable insights into a new dealer’s performance through our ‘3rd party, objective’ evaluation process.  Positive changes resulted included: an improved new dealer training curriculum; enhanced Territory Manager retailer responsibilities; increase emphasis on Environmental, Safety & Health procedures and additional Food Safety on-site training.

"We engaged tmg to help us better understand the ‘fast casual’ restaurant phenomenon in USA. We were seeking to better understand global best practices and innovative formats in order to alter our menu, improve our technology and ultimately improve our consumer experience at our Pronto convenience stores and travel centers in Chile. tmg once again orchestrated a tremendous learning experience for our team with a multi-USA city study tour of best-in-class QSRs, fast casual restaurants and convenience stores. They provided factual evidence of historical trends; organized hosted visits at many stores, thereby enabling our executive team to learn directly from the retail network executives; and coordinated a 50+ store visit schedule in 3 USA metropolitan areas. The team’s learnings were professionally and efficiently summarized with a recommended path forward including many ideas that we have already successfully implemented."
